Possums in your roof?
We get it – possums are adorable, but they can be an unwelcomed house guest. CARE provides humane possum exclusion services, that ensures the possum leaves the property without the use of traps.
Did you know?
- Possums are protected under the Wildlife ACT 1975
- Possums are hollow dependent species that are active at night. It takes anywhere from one hundred years or more for tree hollows to form. As land has been cleared for dwellings the number of available hollows has sharply declined. In response, Possums have looked for alternative options and have found a warm, safe and dark option in the roof buildings.
- It is illegal and inhumane to harass, interfere or relocate possums (penalties of up to $9,246 apply)
- Trapping is a highly stressful experience for possums and is not recommended due to causing injuries significant health risks, including death (noted by Deakin University study). Furthermore, mothers and babies can be separated and trapping does not address the key issue (access to your roof or wall cavity!).
- The exclusion method is the preferred technique of the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.
